Rail Trail Deck Sealing

Board: Town Board

Status: In Progress

First Appearance: August 6, 2026

Days Open: 0 days

Project Summary

The town is investigating how to seal and repair the wooden deck of the rail trail between the Wassaic train station and the hamlet of Wassaic, after reports of warping and popping, untreated boards. It is not yet clear whether Dutchess County or the town is responsible for maintaining this section of trail, and any repair work will likely require DEC permitting since the trail passes through wetlands.

Timeline

August 6, 2026
Board discussed the deteriorating rail trail deck, noting the wood was not pressure-treated and has begun warping in places. Responsibility for the section is disputed — older documentation says the county is responsible, but the town has handled similar repairs before. The town's engineer suggested an RFP for an architect would be needed to design the repair, given DEC wetlands permitting requirements. Supervisor Hamm will contact the county parks department to clarify responsibility before proceeding. Full meeting summary →
